The challenge

Making 400+ handlooms feel personal online.

Atulya Karigari brings Banarasi, Khandua, Sambalpuri, Tussar and Kota Doria sarees, plus artisan craft like Pattachitra and Dhokra, to buyers across India, sourced directly from weavers and craftspeople.

The catalogue is deep and the festive calendar is unforgiving. Buyers can't touch the cloth, so the storefront has to carry trust, texture and story, while helping someone who doesn't know a Khandua from a Kota Doria find the right piece for the right day.

What Vistaar built & delivered

A storefront, a festive theme, and a story layer that keep pace.

  • Storefront Audit & Redesign

Screen-by-screen review of the new Shopify build against the live site, with a fix list covering navigation, mobile layout, contrast and category tiles.

  • Navratri Festive Theme

A "Nine Colours of Navratri" section placed right after the banner, designed in Figma and built on a duplicate theme so the main store stayed untouched.

  • Story & Trust Layer

"Every Thread Has a Name" artisan storytelling, a making journey, customer words and a clear trust strip, all brought closer to the buyer.

Featured modules & festive design

Campaign Direction.

  • 'March — Fresh Elegance' post on deep maroon: a woman in a gold-beige silk saree and choker, beside a taped-on close-up of the same saree
  • 'Shubh Navratri' post in Devanagari: a woman in a green saree with a red blouse and gold jewellery, holding a red flower, her pallu flying against carved wooden doors
  • 'Luxury, before it became a label, was made by hand' post: a woman seated in a teal and red handloom silk saree, framed over a close-up of its weave
  • 'A woman does not just wear tradition. She carries centuries of grace in the way she walks' post: alta-painted hands and feet against the gold-woven border of a red silk saree on a patterned rug
  • 'Every saree is not fabric. It is patience woven into threads. It is art born from devotion' post: a woman in a pink silk saree and temple jewellery seated in a red room with carved wooden furniture
  • A woman in a white saree with large red floral prints and a red flower in her hair, reading a book on the grass in a garden

Brand storytelling modules

Thread By Thread, Planned End-To-End.

  • A woman in a green silk saree with a maroon blouse, gold temple jewellery and red roses, standing in a hall of red pillars
  • A woman in a sheer black saree with silver woven motifs and a pearl necklace, posing beside a gold vase of flowers
  • A woman in a pink silk saree and a nose ring, holding a can of Diet Coke under warm red light
  • A woman in a gold tissue saree, green brocade blouse and green bangles, lit low against a deep red room

    After

    Readable, accessible contrast across cards

  • Artisan Story

    Before

    Generic "Hands Behind" section

    After

Nine-colour, day-wise saree section live before the festival

Outcome

A guided, story-led storefront for the festive rush.

  • A festive entry point that matches how buyers shop Navratri: by colour, by day
  • Clearer navigation and discovery across 400+ sarees and artisan craft
  • Mobile collection pages built around thumb-reach filtering
  • Artisan story and trust signals surfaced where buying decisions happen
  • A duplicate-theme approach that kept the main store safe while the festive build went live

They translated the craft and stories of our artisans into a gifting experience people actually enjoy browsing. The platform feels premium without losing its Indian soul.
